My idea

17/4/11

Today I finished my manipulating one of my photographs, I have added gold to the backgournd of my main image and I will pint out all my presentations and pictures into my ast book that will help reference what I have posted allong the start of the unit.

My Photographs for greed

1/4/11

Today we looked at all the photographs taken and separated them into groups so we knew whos photos beloonged to who. This took some time as we all used the same camera and there were 333 photographs to separate. Our teacher talked to us about editing the images, as in some of the images there was a white background we decided that it would be interesting to manipulate images into our photographs for example in my greed image I could manipulate lots of gold onto the background or for lust Aleia could manipulate huge lips in the while cloth. This enables us to use photoshop and defining our photographs maybe even for protional use.

25/3/11

Today we got into the Dark room and started taking our pictures, so we gathered all our props and scheduled an even amount of time for everyone to take their pictures, with enough time to clear the space because there was another class that wanted to used the room after us. We had alots of fun, as we put and took off costumes and decorated the area for our scenes. we had a little diddiculty with the lighting but we managed to take enough with normal lighting. As we took pictures of our chosen sin Jennifer was taking five or so pictures of evey sin so that everyonw could have at least one picture of the other sins, when she did her modeling an photographing we all took a few pictures.

18/3/11

Today we presented our sin in presentation. We looked at what the sin was, how it affects us, how photographers use the sin in their photography, how the colour is used to present emphasis, how we want to take our pictures, what our props would be and what lighting we would want in our photography.

I got to understand more about all the other sins and most importantly, I learnt more about Lust and Gluttony as they are the sins I will be modeling in.

This is an image I chose to combine Gluttony and Lust together.

4/3/11

Today we all made a schedule so we knew exactly what do to for the following weeks. We chose deadlines for our powerpoints, for our photoshoots and in the end when we could manipulate some of the images that we took.
I lookied at a storyboard for my photoshoot making it easier to take the pictures and so my models would know what I wanted them to do. I also talked to the person I was going to model for (Aleia and Jennifer) as I had been chosen to be the contast for Lust and Glutony. For Lust I was asked to wear white to show purity and virginity when it came to contrasting with the powerfull luxurious red that was suposed to take over me in the photoshoot, as for Gluttony I had to feel impowered by the sin as if she wanted me more and more but as the contrast I had enough.
I wanted my greedy model to want everything, but never feel satisfied, but then when the contrast sees shes lost everything she offeres a yellow coat as the greedy persn isleft in the cold. The giving person smiles as if she feels contented with giving, being kind and caring to others, as the greedy model sees her happiness wanting it like if she was in hunger to feel that way eventhough she was overshadowed with greed.

25/2/11

Today we told eachother our individual ideas, each member of the class had fantastic ideas, such as mimes, plays, dances, photoshoots etc .. but in the end we chose two out of the whole class. As we had to be devided in two groups this would be easier, I was in a group with Paulo, Sharna, Jennifer, Aliea, Faye and Rute. Our group decided to chose Paulos idea of Photoshooting the 7 deadly sins, as we originally just wanted to focus on wrath, we then decided to have a sin each. Unfortunately Paulo had to leave the group so we did wrath as a whole group, leaving us to do a sin each with two models to have the contrast of each sin. I was given the sin Greed, and my colour was yellow, my two models were Aliea and Faye. Aliea is the model protraying Greed, and Faye will be portraying the contrast which is giving.

11/2/11

Today we went into a room called the 'Dark Room' and our teacher showed us how to do photo developing.

we learned that there is a special red light that keeps special paper in good quality as it can be damaged if in contact with normal light.
Welearned how to make images onto the paper without using any kind of camera, so we had a time span to show light onto that paper that created an image as a final outcome. It took me some time before I finally got the hang of it and chose the right amount of seconds on with to let it be exposed.
In the end we were allowed to experiment with a bigger sized sheet and that let us create more effects or dd more objects onto our paper.

4/2/11

Today as a class group we started to discuss our ideas for our final project. So our teacher gave us the task to go home and research into our chosen idea. Our methods of recording our project idea is photography and camera. I have thought about doing a kind of play based on romance. I would use photography to record my oerformance that way I dont have to chose a certain angle to have my carema at. As I want to do a play I have decided to base it on ballte as I used to enjoy watching it and performing it as a child. The advantages of this idea are that it would be a great experience to learn ballete and use our researched knowledge when using a camera to record. The disadvantges are that some students may not feel comfortable or may not feel that ballete is the best way to show the performance for example they might prefere street dancing or even something sophisticated like tango or even the salsa. So this is where the group would have to combine ideas making sure that everyones opinion is included.

My Photography and edits

Today I will be editing pictures that I have selectively chosen to grant the mood I want to manipulate the image to become. As I lost the images on the schools camera due to a misplacement of the memory card I could not use the images I took in my lessons, so I decided to look at my own photographs that I have at home. As I enjoy taking many photographs I have chosen a few and edited them so that I can show a unique emotion into each one of th images below.

Fear

In the image below I have asked three students from my school. I chose Scott to be the one to cause fear(he is the one below the chair) he is grabbing onto Arfacires legs as if he was to full him down, the one to show the emotion is Arfacire (sitting down on the bench) his eyes are wide open looking directly at the main cause of his fear, then we have Corey he is there to show a blank responce to fear, as if it only affects Arfacire.

Happiness

This is an image taken by my mother, I asked her if I could edit itt and she confirmed. I decided to chose this image for hppiness as it the weather is bright making the image seem more positive, I have a huge grin making the emotion appear clearer. The girl that is laying down with her leggs up in the air is wearing bright happy coloured clothes as if to impower the bright blue of my shirt. The weather that day was a bit cloudy but as I have blurred the background its not that noticible. The words "caught slipping" and rofl" are to make the image more intertaining.

Mystery

In the image you can see two main people, Isabel the girl in orange shorts and Manuel in a red top. This image is to show mystery, as you can see this picture was taken on the same day as the top one, but you can see more of the fogg as it creates an illusion that there is nothing but air metres ahead of the sea line. As in the image there are not many people this gives an effect of lonelyness this makes us wonder how far these people are away from 'the world', some even see this image as a flash back to an old dream, the nothing may create possibilitiesbut it also makes the viewer of the image feel trapped, as if they cant leave from this place. The black stripes gives the effect as if it is a movie making the image seem more realistic.

Cold

The boy in this image is called Dorukhan, he is portraying the feeling, some say emotion of being cold. The blue colours had emphasis on this emotion. He is on his phone, this gives an effect that he is feeling alone and the sound of someone can keep him comforted.  he is holding on to his leg, maybe a sign that he is injured and in need of assistance. I added flecks of snow making the image seem more depressing. as he is the only person in the image it gives the feeling that he might be going through some troubles and he has no one that can help him, and like the image on top the colours make it seem like a dream.

Technical skills

In our second lesson we learned about technical skills and how we can change them to manipulate elements as the amount of light and even how sharp the pictures are.

Shutter speed is what controls the light intensity that determines how much light enters the camera this varies between exposure times each picture takes. This has a dramatic impact in the appearance of moving objects, such as cars, people and natural elements such as water making them more exaggerated or even frozen. Slow shutter speed combined with planning the camera this can achieve a motion blur for moving objects.
An extended exposure can also allow photographers to catch brief flashes of light. Images taken with a lower shutter speed creates a visual effect of movement.

Shutter speed                         Typical examples

1 - 30+ seconds                     Night and low light photos
2 - 1/2 second                        It adds a silky smooth effect on water mainly used in landscapes
1/2 - 1/30 second                   for moving objects adding motion blur to the background
carefully taken in hand held photographs
1/50 - 1/100 second               little to no zoom used in hand held photographs
1/250 - 1/500 second             freeze movements such as sport or an action
1/1000 - 1/4000 second         freeze fast movements close up

Aperture is a hole opening through the camera that enables light to travel. A cameras aperture is what determines a photps range of distance over which objects appear in sharp focus with a blurry effect around.
The f-stop is the name for aperture setting, for exampe the wider the opening area the smaller the f-stop. Everytime the f-stop value halves, the light-collection area quadruples. The standard f-stop numbers are; f/22, f/16, f/11, f/8.0, f/5.6, f/4.0, f/2.8, f/2.0, f,1.4. Although most cameras alow much finer adjustments, such as f./3.2, nd f/6.3. These adjustments can also very from camera and even lens.

For example a compact camera may have an available range of f/2.8 and f/8.0, while an SLR camera might have a different range of f/1.4 to f/32 (with a portait lense).

ISO determines how sensitive the camera is to incoming light, it is similar to shutter speed as it correlates 1:1 with how much exposure increases and decreases. Common ISO speeds include 100 200 400 and 800.

For exampe a compact camera the ISO has a range of 50-200 that normaly produces a low amount of image noise, on the other hand an SLR  camera  has a range of 50-800 (some even higher) with an acceptable amount of image noise.

Style of photography

On the first lesson of Record we learned about different styles of photography, such as portrait, photojournalism, landscape and artistic and creative.

Portrait photographs are usually used to identify a person, and it is usually a shot of the head to shoulders, these photos can be used in ID cards. There are even group portrait photographs where the face expression is the strongest or the main element.

Photojournalism is used to show an event, for publication and broadcasting. These can be found in newspapers as journalists use these pictures to attract, inform or even to use as evidence when writing an article.

Landscape photography combines physical origins and cultural, some to show land formations, land use and weather. These images can be used in advertisement especially in travel commercials, leaflets and posters.

Artistic and creative photographs are not very common, they are usually used to show photography skills and some for advertisement. To take these kinds of pictures the photographer has to have an eye for creativity in the smallest things. These images contain some elements of photoshop to give it the unique and creative effect.
